Overview
Hailing from region Jena/Germany, ABYZZ were formed in 1994. The first arrangements showed very fast they need a second guitar player to translate the sound on stage. After three year of playing the first demo saw it's light in 1997 called "Schattenspiele". The title track takes place on the "The Second Vision... From The Mystic Forest" Compilation. Since then the band released 2 albums and 2 e.p.'s. "Terror Mundi" was one of them and the only release through a label. Especially the next album release "Warmasutra" gets more attention in the bands quality and ABYZZ played more gigs than ever before in and outside of Germany. The last release was the e.p. "Reminder", including new versions of some songs from past releases and one new song. The next three years ABYZZ spent their time for their current release "Empusa". The long wait for the 3rd strike worth all the work. ABYZZ are back with a good produced album, celebrating mid tempo death metal with a lot of love for details to create enough variation without to bore the listener with too much high technical arrangements. In 2010 ABYZZ sound is closer than ever and they present us with "Empusa" a release that makes hungry for more.

MORGOTH meets IMPENDING DOOM?
This quintet stands for nowadays: pounding, rhythmic and oppressive Death Metal with a sinister sound, a splendid equilibrium between heaviness and melody, the necessary diversity in tempo, song structures and rhythm, and very skilled members. "Empusa" surprises me, more than once.

There are plenty bands from their rank which did not receive recognition (LEMMING PROJECT, DARK MILLENNIUM) or received it late (CELTIC FROST, GRAVE). ABYZZ are connoisseurs and they MUST have the chance to be heard by more metalheads!!!

Ohne verstaubt zu wirken, erinnert mich die Musik an die Zeiten, als es im Death Metal noch gute Melodien geben durfte. Ich meine damit Bands wie frühe PYOGENESIS oder GODGORY. Die Mischung aus den beiden Stilrichtungen Death- & Thrash-Metal funktioniert. Abwechslungsreich und empfehlenswert.

Als Vergleich kann man sich vielleicht einen Zusammenschluss von AMON AMARTH, CREMATORY und uralten MORGION sowie eventuell auch SATURNUS vorstellen.
Hotel 666 (D)
ABYZZ spielen vielseitigen, fast schon progressiven Death Metal mit tollen, variablen Vocals. Die Songs überzeugen durch enormen Abwechslungsreichtum, dynamischen Aufbau und einer druckvollen, nicht zu sterilen Produktion. Melodische Leads, fette Riffwalzen und gelegentliche, epische Momente, die auch ohne Synths zustande kommen, veredeln "Empusa" zu einer richtigen Death Metal-Perle.
Metal Glory (D) / Metalrocky
Plötzlich bricht erstklassiger, wuchtiger Death Metal über mich herein. Die Produktion ist so druckvoll und zugleich organisch, da kann sich so manch Grosser ein Beispiel dran nehmen. Detailverliebt, aber nie übertrieben vertrackt, eingängig, aber zu keinem Zeitpunkt langweilig, so präsentieren sich wahre Meilensteine, und ABYZZ haben hier solch einen Hochgenuss kreiert.

Ich habe entdeckt, dass gerade im melodischen Death Metal Bereich einige Perlen umherirren. Und mit ABYZZ hat sich eine weitere Perle in meinem Netz verfangen und "Empusa", ihr inzwischen drittes Full Length Album, dreht sich mehr als häufig in meinem Player. Kauft die wirklich hervorragend aufgemachte CD und erfreut euch wie ich an 10 hochklassigen Stücken, bei denen man sich wundert welche Leute bei Plattenfirmen fürs Scouting zuständig sind.
